“First class in every sense… flying the flag for young people’s theatre in Wales”

Arts Council of Wales National Adviser Report, June 2009

Clwyd Theatr Cymru Theatre for Young People (CTCTYP) is a theatre company dedicated to young people housed within a theatre complex called Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold, Flintshire. Clwyd Theatr Cymru (CTC) is the largest producing arts centre in Wales. Both organisations receive separate revenue funding from the Arts Council of Wales.

Brief History

Since 1997, when Terry Hands took over artistic leadership of Clwyd Theatr Cymru, and Tim Baker joined as Associate Director and as Artistic Director of the Theatre for Young People, we have created a huge repertoire of original, exciting theatre projects for young people of all ages, some taking place in the theatre, others taking place in schools, and we have developed techniques of “being involved” and theatre styles which suit particular age ranges and are challenging, inclusive and thought-provoking.

Our Mission

Our mission is to stimulate the imaginations of young people and their communities from every background, fostering creativity, discovery and a hunger for the arts.

We believe that the arts, and theatre in particular, are vital to the development of children and young adults and their future role as questioning, socially active citizens in an increasingly complex and divided world.

At the heart of everything we do are the core values of
enlightenment, excellence and innovation.
